magicJack is a scam!

This company is a scam. There is no way to contact a real person or return their terrible product. How can the primary networks possibly endorse the scam artist.I'll be placing a complaint with the FCC immediately. They've continue to ask for additional credit card information. You have no way of verifying the legitimacy of anything they claim on their website of the of the things they send in their emails. Don't fall for this scam. You'll likely regret it. Most of my calls are broken up and friends an family complain about the quality of the calls with them.

I Wonder HOW Many of the complainers here are actually trying to use this device on a "budget" broadband connection.... or on and old PC that was purchased because the "price was right"....

Come on people... if you're going to use technology... at least try and learn a little about it...

These guys are close to frauds from the consensus of these complaints, it would be worth $20 *CASH* to try it with the expectation the Jackson is gone, but to let them "but they did put a HOLD on my account, as they said they would" is a*HUGE* red flag. The tech support problem non-solving is enough for me to say no thanks, their product either works or it doesn't (50-50) and if it doesn't it looks like they cannot resolve the issue aat all or in a timely manner because the cannot; *HUGE* red flag for the don't waste your time dept.. The whole thing comes off as an infomercial scam on TV as I see it, thanks everyone for your posts and helping me decide on no more potential headaches for me P.S.; I'd watch that adware/spyware and their use of your personal information too...

So far I am happy with the MJ. For it to actually work correctly you must have a reliable computor-not a piece of junk. Another "must" is a decent internet connection. So get off the old 56k and get a new computer that actually works

If you were smart you would have done what I did and buy the magic jack at Radio Shack. That way if you have issues you can easily get your money back. But I have to tell you, if you have a halfway decent highspeed connection, this thing is awesome! I had mine installed and set up in under 10 minutes. It works great and is saving me lots of $$$. If you read the terms and conditions first you will be aware of all you need to know!

I have had no problems. I run Vista on a dell and it works like a charm. If you are having problems it is probably a combination of your ISP service and computer. Remember folks, computers and MJ are only machines that will only do as little or as much as we tell them to do. I would suggest a healthy registry cleaner in order to keep MJ working as promised, otherwise you are at the mercy of every little piece of software on your computer, which can and will interfere with MJ. In summation, I wasn't expecting miracles for $20.00 a year, but thus far, I'm pretty satisfied.

We have been using the magic jack for about a month now. I have not been charged for the device yet. I can say that our sound quality is better now than when we were going through AT&T. We have the GE cordless phones that have extra extensions that just plug into the electrical outllet. I have not noticed any communication problems, calls come in and go out just fine. No delays or anything different from other phones. We did double our broadband speed when we got the magic jack, so maybe that helped.

The only negative thing I have noticed about it is my hotmail locks up alot ever since we installed it.

* I have easily contacted a real person.

* I have NOT been charged for the MJ yet - but they did put a HOLD on my account, as they said they would.

* The phone quality is pretty good.

^The bad thing is that every morning when I wake up and go check the phone, it is mute. I have to unplug and re-plug it. But *** that if someone tries to call you in the middle of the night, they won't be able to, as your phone will be down. MJ rep told me to unplug and re-plug when that happens - which means: they don't have an explanation or solution to this problem.

^ The Softphone that pops-up everytime you try to make a call or receive one is annoying. It brings down any game or program you're using - may be disturbing. They said this will be taking in account as survey studies and hopefully they'll have a solution to this problem soon.

But this are not big problems. I may be asking too much for a service that costs $20 a year. lol

I ordered a MagicJack back in May, and was very satisfied until:

1. The USB extension cable went bad.

2. I started getting a 'Broken Storage' error.

The MagicJack could have been a GIGANTIC success with only a few minor technical obstacles to address and overcome. Unfortunately, they seem to have very little concern for their reputation regarding customer satisfaction potentially leading to POSITIVE customer referrals.

DEFECTIVE USB CABLE = I first contacted their Tech Chat regarding a defective USB cable. They stated they have NO REPLACEMENT CABLES AVAILABLE, and to buy a USB extension cable. I just happened to have a 6 Ft. USB extension cable, and plugged my MJ in to give it a try. Upon plugging it in the MJ started to flash on and off like a Christmas tree ornament. Try to find an 8" USB cable. Apparently wire capacitance is an issue, thus limiting cable length that can be used.

BROKEN STORAGE ERROR = One day I plugged the MJ in and got a: "You must plug your MJ into your computer's USB port". I did the chat thing again for an hour with 2 support people having me re-format one of the MJ's drives.

After doing this 6 or 7 times I asked them for a replacement MJ. They asked me questions as if they were arranging for a replacement for me, but then came to a point to where they asked me where I had purchased it. I told them that I bought it from J&R Music World through Amazon. They then said that being I didn't buy it from them they couldn't help me.

The money isn't the primary issue here, it's the "***" attitude that the purveyors of the MJ have. I'm now going to contact J&R to see what they have to say.
